Child and teen therapy in Buda, Texas
Dr. Jamie Lewis provides individual therapy for children and teens ages 4 to 17, in person in Buda, Texas and by telehealth across Texas. Sessions are 55 minutes at $175, typically weekly, and most families begin with a free 15-minute consultation. She is a licensed psychologist with a doctorate, and she is an out-of-network provider who supplies superbills for insurance reimbursement.
Who is this for?
Therapy is a fit for children and teens ages 4 to 17 who are struggling with:
Anxiety and low mood
Frequent meltdowns, anger, and difficulty with self-control
Defiance and difficulty following adult direction
Trauma and adverse childhood experiences
Self-harm and suicidal thoughts
Social difficulties and low self-esteem
Organization, planning, and other executive function challenges
Adjusting to a diagnosis of ADHD or autism
Parents are part of the work. Dr. Lewis also provides parent consultation for families who want strategy and behavioral support without their child being in weekly treatment.
Age and format guidelines: In-person sessions are strongly preferred for children under 10 and for children at higher risk. Telehealth works well for most children 11 and older, anywhere in Texas.
What does therapy involve?
Step 1. Free 15-minute consultation. A phone call directly with Dr. Lewis. You describe what is going on, she tells you whether she is the right fit, and if she is not, she gives you referrals to someone who is.
Step 2. Intake and treatment planning. The first full session covers background, family and medical history, prior treatment, and current concerns. The second half of that session is spent setting goals and agreeing on how to get there.
Step 3. Weekly sessions. Sessions are 55 minutes and usually weekly. Dr. Lewis works primarily from a cognitive behavioral approach, focused on identifying and shifting unhelpful thoughts and behaviors, with a strengths-based emphasis on what is already working.
Children at higher risk, including those with self-harm or suicidal thoughts, are asked to attend weekly.
How long does it take?
Short-term therapy runs about 12 weeks. Longer-term work runs beyond that. Which one fits gets decided during treatment planning, not before, and it gets revisited as things change.
Scheduling: Most availability is during school hours. After-school slots from 3pm onward are limited.
